Beyond

Beyond is an installation that investigates the perception of color, using as reference fragments of domestic space and household items.

Reflecting the artist current pursuit for sustainable practices, objects made of porcelain invoke color minimally, through statements. The visual attributes are perceived by reading the texts engraved on the monochrome surfaces. The strategy is also supported by an observation regarding our incapacity to quickly explain what a color is, and the tendency to just point instead to objects colored in that way. The artist aims to break down this automatism and even to suggest the possibility of finding a way to assign non-existent colors to objects.

The font is chosen to convey simplicity and meaning, in the most direct manner, by-passing any ornamental approach.

The naming of a color is a rarely exploited resource in the field of ceramics. It comes as a substitute for the classical means of achieving color which involves the use of pigments.
